Network Performance Management
Successful Network Bandwidth Management and Quality of Service via Capacity Monitoring and Capacity Planning

Overview

Anticipation of subscriber-driven network and service growth is a high priority for service providers, especially in the mobile data and broadband service markets. To plan accurately, mobile, broadband and business service providers need knowledge of existing resource and service saturation from the core network out to the service or access domains, as well as knowledge of capacity growth trends. With this information, they can:

  • Balance the deployment of services across the infrastructure
  • Ensure efficient use of investments
  • Make the most cost-effective decisions
  • Satisfy customers by ensuring well-behaved network traffic, and availability and quality of services

Business service providers, in particular, need to be able to track usage patterns within a managed service, and alert their own account representatives when service levels are approaching agreed-upon bandwidth thresholds. This is especially important when service providers and enterprises are trying to get the most out of their existing infrastructures—in other words, when they want to “push” their networks and servers but not to the point where services are disrupted or degraded.

InfoVista’s VistaInsight® for Networks and 5View™ solutions equip service providers with service assurance /network performance management solutions that allow them to adopt a holistic, visionary approach to converged next-generation services, optimize the efficiency of their network infrastructure and operations, and plan and deliver quality revenue-generating network services. The solutions furnish service providers with the real-time visibility, historical performance and trend analysis required to accurately forecast and plan capacity levels. It also empowers them to accurately forecast where network upgrades, redeployments or expansions will be required—whether within the network core, edge, and aggregation layers, or the mobile packet core and broadband access domains.
